THE JUNGLE BOOK PRODUCTION

The Jungle Book production and technology

Was released in 1967 by walt disney studios, disney was responsible for developing a range of techniques and ways of working that became standard practises of traditional cell animation to give the illusion of being 3D.
Disney took control of the original narrative from Ruyard Kipling's the jungle book (original novel) and made it light hearted, playful with features of comedy with happy songs.
Disney also revolutionised the way actors were cast. he based the characters in the film on characteristics of the actors, for example, Phill harris a singer was cast as Baloo and added his own lines of dialogue in the script, the physical designs of the characters were also based on cast members. Shere khan was designed top resemble George Sanders, his voice actor.
Backgrounds were handprinted, and created with multilane camera to create the notion of depth. The ending of the fil,m wasn't initially planned the ending was supposed to be Mowgli returning to the man village but Floyd Norman suggested to create the little girl character so Mowgli had a reason to return and still have a happy ending.

Approach to making a film
Cell animation
the film was created on transparent cells animation technique in which each frame is drawn by hand on a physical medium. The technique was the dominant form of animation in cinema until the advent of computer animation.
