Media Language - Codes and Conventions of Newspapers

The main noticeable differences between The Guardian and the Daily mail is their layouts. The guardian is presented as a broadsheet news paper, including the traditional codes and conventions. For example, the colonized copy (text) with a larger columns. From this we could infer that the articles in this paper have more detail on the front cover, which could also indicate that this is the same amount  in the whole paper.
This could also refer to the audience demographic. it could suggest that the aimed audience are more educated, and therefore look for more depth in hard news stories. The highest percentage of readers of the guardian fall into the audience demographic category ABC1. This category includes people of high & intermediate managerial, administrative, professional occupations. This category is also described as including consumers from mixed economic groupswhich consists of people who have more ranges of education with high standards. Also, in terms of ideology it relies on left wing values, such as socialism. This regards to having socialistic bias in views of the articles. Presenting right wing issues such as Brexit from a left wing perspective. Another noticeable feature is the representation of ethnic groups. In the guardian it presents people through images on the cover with varied ethnicities whereas in the daily mail the only image featured is of two white people. this could suggest the target audience of each paper. As usually in newspapers and other forms of media such as films and tv, they feature characters or people similar to their target audience. Another physical difference of the papers is that the daily mail has a splash layout form of the main heading whereas the size of the heading on The Guardian is a lot smaller. Some similarities include them both having a masthead.  n
